Is a picture worth a thousand words?

A picture is worth a thousand words.
Is that true? I don’t believe it is. Even if it is true, why don’t we just see a picture in addition to a thousand words? This would make two thousands words then. It is quite concise way of thinking but I think this is one of the essential rationalities we’ve lost through this modern society which is highly dominated by visual informations.

百聞は一見に如かずというのは本当でしょうか。
僕はそうは思いません。もし仮にそうだとしても百聞してから一見すれば二百聞になりますよね。かなり簡潔な考え方ですが、高度に視覚情報に支配された現代社会を通して僕たちが失ってしまった非常に重要な良識の一つだと思います。
